What it is
The CFL 11W E27 Blacklight Blue UV Lamp is a self-ballasted compact fluorescent lamp designed to produce long-wave UV-A radiation rather than conventional white illumination.
Its Blacklight Blue (BLB) construction uses dark blue/purple filtering glass to suppress much of the visible output while allowing long-wave ultraviolet radiation to pass. This UV radiation excites compatible fluorescent pigments, dyes, security markings and other UV-reactive materials, causing them to produce the characteristic visible glow associated with blacklights.
Unlike the T5 and T8 UV fluorescent tubes we’ve been cataloguing, this lamp incorporates its fluorescent control electronics into the CFL base. It therefore uses a standard E27 Edison Screw fitting and operates from 220V mains without requiring a separate fluorescent ballast.
